Director
Janice Westphal completed undergraduate studies in Vocal
Music, Organ, and Mathematics at Lakeland
College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She earned a Masters
degree in Music Education at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee. She
has also completed course work at the Milwaukee
School of Engineering toward an Engineering Degree.
Since 1977 she has been a teacher of Choral Music and
Mathematics at the high school in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. In
2003 she was named Teacher of the Year for the Sheboygan
Falls District. She also provides private lessons
in voice and piano.
Janice was a church organist for over 25 years and has
performed in local organ and voice recitals. She
has been a member of the Lakeshore Chorale and the Sheboygan
Music club. She is currently the Music Director for
the Sheboygan Theatre Company. She has provided musical
direction and keyboard instrumentation for shows including
Man of LaMancha, Titanic, South Pacific, 42nd Street, Jesus
Christ Superstar, and Into The Woods.
Janice began singing with Sound Celebration in 1989 when
it was known as The Chordalettes. She began directing
Sound Celebration in 1990. She has sung lead and
baritone in competing quartets since 1990. Her current
quartet, Opening Night, has been nominated for the Images
of Harmony Award. This award is given each to the
Harmony, Inc, quartet that contributes significantly to
charitable organizations. She has coached quartets
and been on the faculty for Harmony Intensive training
School. Janice currently serves Area 4 of Harmony,
Inc. as the education Coordinator.
In October 2005 Sound Celebration performs it’s
38th annual show. Janice’s background in theatre
and music add a unique touch to the musical plays performed
by Sound Celebration.
In addition to her extensive musical involvement,
Janice is an avid gardener and cross stitch artist.
